Meals on Wheels of Sarasota helps hundreds across the Suncoast, but now they need your help.
Executive Director of Meals on Wheels Sarasota, Marjorie Broughton. says… This year, they are struggling and need the communities help
Meals on Wheels of Sarasota prepares over 800 meals for people in need across the Suncoast who are unable to provide or prepare a meal for themselves in their home.
Especially with the pandemic and now with food shortages, there are new challenges, this year, thus the organization is in desperate need of volunteers
With holidays just around the corner, the organization is also in need of items for their annual share the love event
Meals on Wheels is collecting everything from puzzle books and blankets, to nail files and toothpaste. As well as other gifts.
This is some of What Meals on Wheels of Sarasota does....
Meal Service
Five hundred times a day, Meals on Wheels of Sarasota delivers nutritious meals that are cooked, prepared, packaged and hand delivered to members. Our menu is focused on preparing a heart healthy, nutritional meal - one that meets the Recommended Daily Intake (RDI) standards and tastes great. We provide a low sodium, lower fat, lower sugar fare for all our clients which will satisfy the many age groups, genders, and sizes of our clients with different cultural palates. Our meal program helps clients maintain a healthy lifestyle and remain living independently by providing nutritious meals, a daily safety check and friendly interaction.
Personal Check-In
Far too many times, homebound residents spend days and even weeks without seeing a single person. For many in ill health or nearing starvation, their life is put at risk. That's why Meals on Wheels delivery drivers make it a point to check in on our members. If something is not right the volunteer can raise a red flag so we can alert the proper people to act. Through the daily service with the volunteer they see every day, members and volunteers get to know each other and develop bonds and relationships. Much more than the delivery of a hot meal, the volunteer visit is a personal check-in that many Meals on Wheels recipients look forward to.
MOW Pet Love
Unfortunately, many of our Meals On Wheels pet owners sacrifice their own nutrition by sharing portions of their meal with their hungry pets. To help, we created the Pet Love Program to give members pet food to provide their pets with a healthy diet, even if they are unable to leave their homes to buy pet food.
