Sarasota County School District Announces They Are Building 3 New Schools

New Schools will be on the way, in the next few years. As The Sarasota County School District announced it will be building three new schools

There will be Two new K-8 schools built, and one new high school built.

First up....

New School #1

Construction of a new Eastern Sarasota, K-8 school, will be built... at the intersection of Clark and Lorraine road in Sarasota. Work is currently planned to begin in 2022-23, with a goal to complete the project by 2025-26.

The K-8 school will be 235,000 square feet, with a capacity for 1,200 students. 

New School # 2

Construction of a new high school at Wellen Park

The school district is planning for the school to be completed in the 2026-27 school year. Construction is slated to begin in 2023-24.

The school will sit on the future Manasota Beach Road extension near River Road.

The 375,000 square-foot school is expected to have capacity for 2,000 students, and the plan now is for the school to pull from areas currently zoned for Venice High School. Venice High is roughly 200 students above capacity this year.  

New School # 3

Construction of a new K-8 school at Wellen Park. It will be built adjacent to the new high school. Construction on the Wellen Park K-8 school is scheduled to begin in 2024-25, with a goal to be complete by 2027-28. 

These 3 new schools will help with crowding at several Sarasota county schools, including Ashton, Lakeview, & Taylor Ranch elementary, as well as Laurel Nokomis school and Venice High School .
