North Port Taking Down Gabby Petito Memorial, City Seeks Permanent Solution
The city of North Port has sent out t tweet saying that the makeshift memorial for Gabby Petito with lots of various items at City Center, must be removed due to damage from the elements, but North Port officials are working to find a permanent place for mourners to pay their respects.
The community's response to Gabby's death has resulted in items like: Teddy bears, flowers, posters, and other items, outside North Port City Hall.
In that tweet, the city said the memorial "has been a shining example of that support, but items have become damaged in the Florida sun and rain."
For that reason, city staff will begin removing the items on Tuesday, October 12th, 2021. They will pass along undamaged items to Petito's family. North Port says that a permanent memorial is in the works.
The City of North Port also suggests that anyone who would to support the Petito family, could consider donating to the Gabby Petito Foundation, which the family set up to help parents locate missing children.
