Sarasota County Schools Make Face Masks Optional as of Today
As of Today (9/27/21) Sarasota County schools are now no longer requiring face masks be worn by students and staff. This is because the COVID-19 positivity level has dropped, the school district announced last night (9/26/21).
The emergency policy the Sarasota County School Board Had previously adopted, stated that the face mask requirement is automatically suspended when test positivity in the county… drops below 8% for three consecutive days.
In the statement released. The Sarasota County School district says… it still hopes people will wear face masks.
"We strongly encourage everyone to continue to wear a face mask when indoors to help keep the positivity rate below 8%. .
Per this policy, Masks become optional once data maintained by the Florida Department of Health show the positivity rate below 8% for three days, the district says.
If the positivity rate rises above 10%, the policy calls for mandatory masks to resume.
