Sarasota County Announces Start of Cattlemen Road Improvements - Phase II
Construction Contract Awarded for Cattlemen Road Improvements Project Phase II
SARASOTA COUNTY - Phase II construction of the Cattlemen Road Improvements Project is set to begin in mid-October. The Sarasota County Board of County Commission awarded the construction contract to Cobb Site Development, Inc. during their regular Aug. 24 board meeting.
Phase II includes widening Cattlemen Road to four lanes, from Celery Lane to S. Packinghouse Road, widening Palmer Boulevard from west of Jakl Avenue to the Interstate-75 overpass, and reconstruction of S. Packinghouse Road from Cattlemen Road to south of Palmer Boulevard. The project also includes the installation of curbs and gutters, closed drainage systems, street lighting, sidewalk and bicycle lanes, water, and sewer utility adjustments, and traffic signal upgrades.
Construction is anticipated to begin in mid-October 2021 and last through Fall 2022. Motorists should take caution when approaching construction areas, follow directions from flaggers, or seek alternate routes.
The Cattlemen Road Improvements Project was approved by the Sarasota County Board of County Commission in 1995 and divided into five phases for design and construction. Construction is already complete on phases one, three and four, between Bahia Vista Street and Bee Ridge Road. Additional stormwater and roadway improvements are planned for phase five in the future.
