The Sarasota Police Department says that Traffic delays from the new traffic pattern at the intersection of Gulfstream Avenue and U.S. 41 in downtown Sarasota have decreased, as Motorists have become more familiar with the changes… and the timing of the traffic signals has been adjusted.

The new traffic pattern went into effect at the intersection on Monday, August 16th , to allow for the next phase of construction of the Gulfstream Roundabout.

The Sarasota Police Department’s motor/traffic unit said that there have been three crashes in the construction area. Two were on Aug. 19TH and one was last Tuesday.

Alice Ramos, a spokesperson for the Florida Department of Transportation says…. .

“We anticipate motorists will adjust to the new detour and alternate routes as they become more familiar with the new alignment and access restrictions”. “However, we are actively monitoring traffic conditions and making the necessary adjustments to the signal timing, signage, and roadway markings to minimize impacts to the traveling public, businesses, and area residents.”

The current detours are part of Phase 1 of a $8.6 million roundabout project expected to be completed in fall 2022.

The FDOT says that…. “Traffic patterns are scheduled to change roughly every 100 days as construction continues”.
