Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, says $1,000 Teacher Bonuses Coming in August

He expects $1,000 bonuses promised to teachers and principals using federal coronavirus relief funds to be delivered in within the next 6 weeks.

Governor DeSantis said back in March he would use part $216 million in federal stimulus money for educator bonuses. He said the $1,000 checks would serve as “a token of the appreciation” for school employees who worked amid the coronavirus pandemic.

At an event yesterday (7/13/21) in Orlando, the governor said that teachers and principals are still on track to be “mailed a check” in August.

There were some questions about whether the State of Florida could use the funds, after the Federal Government questioned the plan…

In response to that Governor DeSanris said… “I think we’re good to go. We’re using the federal funding from ... It absolutely can be used for bonuses”… The governor went on to say he isn’t yet sure whether the bonuses would be taxed. “I think the question that we have is, was the ( federal) administration going to tax the bonuses, and I think they might. Obviously, we in Florida… don’t believe it should be taxable.”
