Yes. The Sarasota-Bradenton area is number six in the United States. In fact Florida Highway Patrol Troopers say dozens of pedestrians have been struck by a vehicle and killed over the last year in Sarasota and Manatee Counties.

In fact... Six Florida cities, with Orlando on top of the list, are among the 10 most dangerous locations for pedestrians in America.

This is all according to the latest “Dangerous by Design” study released Wednesday (3/10/21).

Florida is the No. 1 state for pedestrian fatalities, according to the Smart Growth America and the National Complete Streets Coalition.

The Orlando metropolitan area is the most dangerous in the United States. Palm Bay/Melbourne/Titusville is No. 4; Deltona/Daytona Beach/Ormond Beach is No. 5; Sarasota/Bradenton checked in at No. 6; then, Lakeland/Winter Haven is No. 9. and Jacksonville is the 10th most dangerous metro area,

According to the Insurance Insurance for Highway Safety, 713 pedestrians died on Florida’s roads in 2019 -- its most recent data.

While the number of fatalities was less, last year, the groups’ Pedestrian Danger Index went up in 84 of the top 100 metropolitan areas and in 49 states.

The study is released every year to help make everyone aware of the danger on our local roads.
