City of Sarasota to Bring Free Wi-Fi to Public Parks This Year
Many large cities across the USA, like New York, Los Angeles andĀ Miami, offer free wi-fi. Also many smaller cities are now doing it as well, including many in Florida.
Sarasota Mayor Hagen BrodyĀ and city staffĀ are working on a proposalĀ to begin connecting public parks to free Wi-Fi this year.
The goal is to have some public parks with access to Wi-Fi before the end of 2021 and to expand service from there.Ā He says that heās confident that the project can be supported by funding the city has access to, and that there will be no cost to taxpayers.
COVID-19 hasĀ shown a need for open-air spaces with Wi-FiĀ available to residents. Public buildings were a usual place to visit, but outdoor spaces are a much safer place to access the internet, especially for those who are at high risk.Ā
.The mayor says this will be a multiyear project.
