New Downtown Sarasota Coffee & Ice Cream Shop Hires People with Disabilities

A brand new store that sells coffee and ice cream in Downtown Sarasota is changing the lives of people with developmental disabilities.

Rise Coffee Co. and Nye’s Cream Sandwiches is located on State Street, within Downtown Sarasota. The shop is ONLY a week old, but it is bringing a lot of smiles into our area. .

There mission behind what they are doing is to offer job opportunities to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Beaver Shriver, co owner of Rise and Nye’s. says he wanted to provide his employees with a chance of a better life.

Christian Nye, also co owner of Rise and Nye’s, says they are partnering with facilities like "The Haven" and "Easter Seals of Southwest Florida". Their employees earn a paycheck, they also get a business card, however, the most important of the job, is the financial independence it provides.

Rise and Nye’s is open Monday through Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
