City of Sarasota Renews Mask Ordinance Through February 2021
As the city of Sarasota ended its last regular meeting of the 2020, elected officials unanimously voted on Monday, December 7th to extend the mask ordinance by 60 days. The current ordinance would have expired Dec. 27, 2020
In September, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed an executive order that prohibited municipalities from collecting fines from individuals who refuse to wear masks. It also limited cities in how they would enforce mask or social distancing measures.
The city of Sarasota never enforced its mask ordinance and it worked as a sort of safety net for businesses to require people to use them in their establishments.
