Alert: Sarasota Roundabout is Now Open on U.S. 41 at Fruitville Road
Vehicles are now able to fully use the roundabout on U.S. 41 at Fruitville Road in Sarasota. This is the latest roundabout to open in the city. It makes 3 consecutive roundabouts now on US 41, adding to the roundabouts at 10th and 14th St, along US 41 in Downtown Sarasota. There will be more to come in the near future.
City of Sarasota officials say this roundabout will improve traffic flow and safety. They say it also enhances connectivity between the downtown area and the Bayfront for pedestrians and bicyclists.
Officials are urging motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists to be patient while everyone continues to get used to this new roundabout.
This project cost 7 million dollars and took about a year to complete.
The next roundabout to be constructed in Downtown Sarasota, will be just to the south of Fruitville and 41 , at the intersection of Gulfstream and 41. That is the intersection that leads to the John Ringling Causeway and St. Armands Circle. Construction will begin early in 2021.on that project.
