Sarasota County Now Has More CARES Act Money to Help Renters and Others

Sarasota County residents now have more federal funding to help them recover from the economic issues associated to the coronavirus. 

The Sarasota County Commission unanimously voted to double the dollar amounts of federal CARES Act money that could go to residents for rental relief from $5,000 to $10,000. 

This change, gives the county the flexibility it needs to meet the demand from Sarasota County residents who need help paying utility bills, mortgages and rent. 

The county also will redirect $4 million in CARES Act money designated for individual assistance into a pot of money earmarked for businesses struggling amid COVID-19. 

As we enter the 2nd week of November, Sarasota County has distributed $1.7 million in individual assistance and $19 million in grants to local businesses.
