Sarasota County Schools in Desperate Need for Substitute Teachers
The Sarasota County School District desperately needs substitute teachers who want to work.
COVID-19 has dramatically dropped the number of substitutes the district has to fill teacher vacancies, and as a result, the district is having to shuffle staff around throughout the day to make sure every class has a teacher.
Last Thursday (10/8/20), the district needed 196 substitute teachers. In their the pool of 660 qualified people, only 162 spots were filled, which left 34 classes in need of a teacher.
The district has teachers out on leave and some of their qualified and previous substitutes, are either not available or want to work, due to concerns with COVID-19.
Therefore, The Sarasota County School District needs 100 more substitute teachers ASAP. The pay ranges from $98 a day for people with an associate’s degree, $119 a day for those with a bachelor’s degree and $129 for anyone with a master’s degree.
Long-term substitutes who stay with the same class for 21 days or longer receive roughly an additional $20 per day, depending on their education level.
The School District can process an application within a week, and they encourage any interested applicants to contact the district’s human resources department at 941-927-9000, ext. 31200, or go to: www.SarasotaCountySchools.Net
