Longboat Key Closing Beach Parking and Access to Beer Can Island Today

Longboat Key has announced they are closing all of its public beach access parking and access to Beer Can Island, starting Today (6-30-20) until further notice because of concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Longboat Key Town Manager Tom Harmer’s latest executive order is here.... In it, it also announces the closing of the public restrooms at Bayfront Park and Joan M. Durante Park, until further notice.

Longboat Key will re-evaluate the executive order by Monday, July 13th, thus indicating these closures will likely extend beyond the upcoming Fourth of July holiday weekend.

A highlight of the new closures include:

Public Park/Amenity Closures:

  • All beach access parking is closed effective June 30, 2020 until further notice.
  • Quick Point and Overlook Park parking is closed effective June 30, 2020 until further notice.
  • Public restrooms at Bayfront Park and Joan Durante Park is closed effective June 30, 2020 until further notice.
  • Boat access to Greer Island (Beer Can Island) is closed.

The Town Manager issued an Executive Order dated June 29, 2020 regarding the Town's protective measures, closures, and directives through July 13, 2020.
