We've seen Parades of all kinds, Video Zoom calls and Large Posters, just to name a few... .
Well, in Key West they had another idea... And, of course it involved water.
Students at a Key West charter school, picked up their diplomas this past Tuesday on a personal watercraft.
Somerset Island Prep charter high school held its inaugural graduation, this past Tuesday evening on the ocean, at the Atlantic end of Duval Street that’s home to the Southernmost Point.
Graduates were dressed in caps, gowns and face coverings, It was a small graduating class of 12 seniors jetted out, one at a time on a personal watercraft to an anchored boat, where their principal Tom Rompella handed each their diploma.
Principal Rompella said the idea came from educator Nick Wright, founder of the Keys Learning Center, a tutoring and test prep center that shares a building with Somerset Island Prep and is partners with the charter school.
There was no cost to students or the school, for the unique graduation. The personal watercraft were loaned free from of charge from Fury Water Adventures, which also gave the graduates a free three-hour training course the day before the ceremony.
