Universal Orlando Proposes Reopening to Public - First Week of June

Universal Orlando is the first Florida Theme Park to submit a proposal and plan that would allow it to reopen to the public on Friday, June 5th.

The Orange County reopening task force unanimously approved the plan, but it must also be approved by the Re-Open Florida Task Force appointed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

In the plan, Universal Orlando submits that they would like to start the reopening process on Monday, June 1st and that only team members would be allowed into parks on Monday, June 1st and Tuesday, June 2nd.

The plan then lays out a scenario where on Wednesday, June 3rd and Thursday, June 4th where Universal Orlando would be open for limited availability to some passholders.

The plan also states, that when the park does reopen to the public, capacity will be limited.

Universal Studios in Orlando is the first of Orlando’s major theme parks to announce a possible date for a reopening. It closed in mid-March, over concerns of safety due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Details of the plan include:

  • No valet parking
  • Cars parked one or two spaces apart
  • Visitors and employees must wear face coverings
  • Visitors and employees will receive temperature checks
  • No one above 100.4 degrees will be allowed in
  • Park capacity will be limited (the limit was not announced)
  • Play areas will be closed
  • Virtual lines managed through an app
  • Lines will be spaced out
  • No single rider lines
  • Hand sanitizer stations throughout the park

This Universal reopening would be an extension of the limited reopening of Universal’s CityWalk entertainment district, which reopened in Mid May. .

At this point, Disney and SeaWorld have not yet presenting their reopening plans to the Orlando Re-Opening task force.
