It’s an exciting time for Will and Jennifer McKendree, from Virginia Beach, VA.... as they became parents to a baby girl earlier this month.
But, they had a unique problem. Will is hearing-impaired and communicates by reading lips … which he wasn’t able see because everyone was wearing masks – especially in hospitals.
The nurses didn’t want Will to feel left out during his daughter’s birth, so they created special see-through masks using clear plastic panels sewn into the fabric.
It worked perfectly. Will was able to read the lips of the staff members while Jennifer gave birth and could fully participate in this special moment.
But that’s not all. The special see-through masks are now being distributed throughout the hospital to help other hearing-impaired people stay connected during these unusual times.
