Manatee County Providing FREE Sandbags to Prepare for Hurricane Idalia

MANATEE COUNTY, FL (August 27, 2023) – Manatee County has been placed under a hurricane watch/warning and storm surge watch/warning, ahead of the potential midweek impact of Hurricane Idalia. This includes the City of Bradenton and Anna Maria Island.  

A Hurricane Watch means hurricane-force winds are possible somewhere within this area within the next 48 hours. A Storm Surge Watch means life-threatening inundation, from rising water moving inland from the coastline, is possible somewhere within this area within the next 48 hours. 

As a result, Manatee County will be opening self-serve sandbag stations (sandbags provided, limit 10 per household) beginning Monday (August 28) morning at 9 a.m. at the following locations: 

Manatee Beach 

4000 Gulf Drive 

Holmes Beach 34217 

Coquina Beach 

2650 Gulf Drive 

Bradenton Beach 34217 

Bayfront Park 

310 North Bay Blvd.  

Anna Maria Island 34216 

Rubonia 

1309 72nd St E 

Palmetto 34221 

66th Street West Fleet Building (non-ADA; entrance directly across from 65th Street West) 

4700 66th Street West 

Bradenton 34210 

Pride Park 

6032 9th Street East

Bradenton 34203 

While there are no evacuation orders at this time, citizens are strongly encouraged to know their evacuation level, which can be found at mymanatee.org/manateeready.
