Sarasota National Cemetery needs volunteers to place flags for Memorial Day
Each Memorial Day Weekend, on that Saturday morning (this year on Saturday, May 27th). Volunteers place American Flags on the grave of Every Hero resting at our Sarasota National Cemetery.
The Program started a few years with about 400 volunteers, and 9,200 American flags were placed. This year approximately 21,000 flags with a thousand volunteers, will carry out the mission.
There are Nearly 10 American Heroes a day, laid to rest at The Sarasota National Cemetery.
The program mission says… "A person takes their last breath twice, once when they leave this beautiful earth and the second time when their name is never said out loud again”.
There’s still time to sign up and help for the event this coming Memorial Day weekend.
Donations are also needed.
On Saturday, June 3, volunteers are also needed to help pick up and retire the flags.
