Sarasota Square Mall Being Redeveloped Adding 1,200 New Condos & Apartments
More housing in the form of Apartments and or Condos could soon be coming to south Sarasota.
Sarasota Square Mall may soon have a face-lift. The enclosed mall built in the mid 1970s may very well become a mixed-use property with up to 1,200 multifamily units, this comes from plans filed with Sarasota County for new development and land use changes.
First though... the JC Penney, Costco and AMC Theater would remain where they are currently located.
However... there would be massive changes to the rest of the property. In the new plan... much of the current mall would be demolished and then a large chuck of the property would have with three new apartment and/or condo buildings. There would also remain some space for businesses on the north side of the 93 acre property. There would also be space for a possible grocery store, and a drive thru establishment.
An Illinois company purchased the land at the Sarasota Square Mall, in May 2021, for over $30 million.
What is interesting about this plan is.... if this total redevelopment works, then the Sarasota Square Mall could serve as a template for other malls all over the country... possibly even the DeSoto Square Mall in Bradenton.
