Design Process has begun for Lorraine Road extension in Sarasota County
Lorraine Road will eventually be extended from south of Clark Road to Knights Trail Road, offering motorists an alternative to I- 75.
A few years ago, the Bee Ridge extension was renamed Lorraine Rd.... and Lorraine road was extended south into Sarasota County, intersecting with Fruitville Road east of I-75.
The design for the latest Lorraine Rd. extension is about to start and is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
The Sarasota County Commission approved the road’s alignment and resolutions relating to the extension at a meeting on March 7, 2023.
This new road extension will also interconnect a series of subdivisions to be built between Clark and Knights Trail.
This extension project for Lorraine road will be split into three sections. As each section, has different landowners.
The northernmost one is in Skye Ranch, owned by homebuilder Taylor Morrison.
The company has already built 1.38 miles of the road; it is going to widen that stretch from two lanes to four, with funding from Sarasota County. Taylor Morrison is also going to build another 0.57 miles of Lorraine Road.
The middle segment, a 2.4-mile stretch, will be part of the Lakes of Sarasota Community Development.
The southernmost segment of the road will be a 3.6-mile stretch, a majority of which is owned by Palmer Ranch, with some owned by Sarasota County.
There are hopes that at least two lanes of the road will be in service by 2028 or earlier.
Here is to hoping this project timeline get bumped up, by Sarasota County .... since we could use this alternative to I-75...
