Sarasota County Announces Lane Closures on Albee Road Bridge
The Albee Road Bridge will have a lane closure for the next 45 days as crews continue to work on the bridge rehabilitation.
Traffic signal timing has been adjusted to extend green times for peek time travel, and off-duty deputies are assisting with traffic control from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The bridge will not open to marine traffic this week (January 8th-15th, 2023).
Sarasota County is seeking to rehabilitate the Albee Road Bridge No. 170057, in order to extend the life of the bridge to 15 years. Fifteen years is the typical industry standard if maintenance continues to be performed. The project is limited to the bridge structure, approach slabs, repairs to the steel grid deck, fender system, includes performing mechanical, electrical, structural repairs, and temporary traffic control associated with the work both onsite and offsite. No wetlands or waters of the United States will be impacted as part of this restoration process. A public meeting was held on November 6, 2019, to discuss the proposed bridge repairs and the vehicular and boat traffic maintenance issues. An additional construction informational virtual public meeting was held on January 13, 2021.
The project was re-advertised and the bids were opened on October 6, 2021. The contract was awarded to Seacoast Inc., by the Sarasota County Commission on November 16, 2021. The contractor is repairing the bridge deck and the structural steel of the bridge. The contractor is also working on the mechanical, electrical and structural components of the structure.
The anticipated completion of the project is scheduled for the end of February 2023.
