Sarasota Veteran Surprised with Gifts and Home Decorations for the Holidays
Florida Power & Light (FPL) teamed up with the military non-profit Denis V. Cooper Foundation, (Founded in honor of my Late Father - SGT. Denis V. Cooper - USMC - Vietnam Veteran and Combat Helicopter Crew Chief) . In our latest collaboration we world with FPL and were able to surprise a Sarasota USMC veteran with some much-deserved holiday cheer. There were Gifts for His Kids, plus the front of his home became an energy-efficient winter wonderland.
FPL reached to my organization (Denis V. Cooper Foundation - Wishes For Heroes) asking if we knew a Sarasota & Manatee Veteran with children who was deserving of a holiday home makeover. There were so many deserving Hertoes in our Hero for this honor...
Ultimately, Carlos Moreira from Sarasota was selected as the veteran to be honored. Sgt. Moreira spent more than 15 years on active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps, plus three years as a reservist before enrolling in college at the University of South Florida (USF).
Sgt. Moreira now works as a veteran services administrator at USF’s Military and Veteran’s Success Center, primarily at their Sarasota-Manatee Campus. . He is also currently serving his second term as the volunteer president of the Sarasota County Veterans Commission.
He had no idea what was happening when he got home on. His home was fully decorated and there were also gifts for his 2 young children.
His wife, Wynika Moreira is also a Veteran, having served in the US Navy... She knew about the surprise and kept it a secret, until they arrived home... to a full holiday display at their Sarasota home.
