Sarasota School Board approves new policy restricting comments at Meetings

Sarasota County School Board approves controversial new policy restricting Parents comments at Board Meetings

Several Months of discussion have led to the Sarasota County School Board approving a new policy that reduces public comment time, at its meetings. The new controversial public comment policy passed on a very close,  3-2 vote. This even after the majority of the public, spoke against this new policy.

Sarasota County School Board policy now reduces speaker time to two minutes, it also limits comments to one hour per meeting with an extension option, and also moves comments on non-agenda items, to the end of the meeting.

School Board Members Jane Goodwin, Shirley Brown & Tom Edwards voted for this new policy.

School Board Members Karen Rose and Bridget Ziegler voted against the policy.

The School Board says they would be open to returning to a 3 min time per speaker and would re-visit that at a future school board work session
