Term Limits Under Microscope In Miami

Miami Commissioners taking an initial vote on a proposal to limit an elected official to two terms as mayor and two terms as city commissioner, ending their service at sixteen years in office. The idea being pitched by Commissioner Damian Pardo who wants to stop elected officials from serving, taking a break, then serving again spending decades in office. This change would require a tweak in the city charter so voters would have the final say. If approved, and on the ballot this November, it could invalidate the victory of a candidate who has already served the maximum time.
