The Martin County Commission has approved a resolution to invoke the Florida Governmental Conflict Resolution Act.

They want to bring in a mediator to resolve a dispute with the city of Stuart over a Brightline station.

The city backed out of a deal with the county to bring a train station to the downtown area. Stuart Mayor Campbell Rich says members of the City Commission were concerned about the potential costs.

"They feel it's too expensive primarily, which is why I'm a little perplexed as to why we were unwilling to give a letter of support to the grant application."

He's referring to a $30-million federal grant request that the county asked the city to send a letter of support about.

Martin county says the city ignored its request for a letter of support and claims Stuart is in breach of an interlocal agreement.

The county will schedule a joint public meeting between county and city staff within the next 30 days.
