Scotty McCreery’s son is already paying tribute to legendary King of Country George Strait.
McCreery shared a clip on Instagram on Thursday morning (March 13) that commenters gushed is “precious” and “the cutest.” Though McCreery’s son can’t be seen in the video, viewers will hear the young Strait fan singing in the background. McCreery asked, “who sings that song?” And his son replies, “George Strait.”
The former American Idol champ and his wife, Gabi McCreery, welcomed their firstborn child, son Merrick Avery McCreery, on October 24, 2022. McCreery said at that time that his son, who is named in honor of Gabi’s father (Merrick (Tre) Dugal III) and goes by Avery, arrived at 4:34 a.m. that morning at “7 lbs 13oz of nothin but love.” The country star said he’d “never known a love like this.”
McCreery is a longtime fan of Strait, and wrote his 2021 hit single, “Damn Strait,” as a nod to the beloved legend. Last year, he appeared on an episode of the Biscuits & Jam podcast. While catching up with Souther Living Editor-in-Chief Sid Evans, McCreery said Strait is “the King for a reason.”
“I think George had a way of having a song for everybody,” McCreery said at the time. “He was everybody's country singer and he had a song if you were feeling sad. He had a song if you wanted to dance with your honey. He had a song for the cowboys and he just seemed the ultimate cowboy…Me and my wife met in elementary school and you hear a song like ‘Check Yes or No’ – to me, that's kind of our story. And I feel like everybody has a George Strait song that they can listen to, and be like, ‘Man, that sounds like me. That's our story.’ And I think that's the mark of a great artist and true country singer right there. Real guys and girls telling real stories.”
