The Chicks Slam The CMA for "Disgusting" Handling of Beyoncé Controversy

After the trio formerly known as The Dixie Chicks played "Daddy Lessons" alongside Beyoncé at the 2016 Country Music Association Awards, the CMA responded to a small but vocal group of critics by briefly removing footage of the performance from the internet. “The CMAs were absolutely wrong to cower to that racism,” lead singer Natalie Maines tells the AP. “It was disgusting. It’s good that they put it back up, but it should have never come down.” Adds fellow Chick Emily Strayer, “When you invite [Beyoncé] knowing that she’s going to bring that elevation to the show and those eyeballs and then you diss her like that, it’s twisting the knife." The Chicks' first album in 14 years,Gaslighter, is due out Friday.
