As if catching coronavirus or getting stung by a "murder hornet" wasn't enough to keep you inside all summer, there are now reports that a mosquito-borne illness that proves deadly to roughly 40 percent of those who get it is on the rise in the eastern U.S. Eastern Equine Encephalitis, or EEE, has no vaccine or known treatment and is about 400 times deadlier than the flu. If you do survive, the disease can cause neurological problems that last for years. States like Massachusetts and Michigan experienced some of their worst-ever EEE outbreaks in 2019. The relatively good news is that, according to the CDC, only a few cases are reported in the U.S. annually.
