Rays Pitcher Blake Snell Says Playing for Reduced Pay

Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Blake Snell is the latest player to throw cold water on MLB's proposed re-opening plan,Peoplereports. The league sent a proposal to MLB players on Tuesday outlining steps to restart the regular season by July 1. One of the proposals was a 50/50 revenue share between players and owners, despite an agreement in March that player salaries would be pro-rated. Snell said Thursday on twitch that returning after a pay cut is "not worth it." He went on to explain, "For me to take a pay cut is not happening, because the risk is through the roof. It's a shorter season, less pay....No, I gotta get my money. I'm not playing unless I get mine, okay?” Snell, who was projected to earn $7 million this year, also said, "Bro, I'm risking my life." When one commenter said money shouldn't enter into his decision, Snell snapped back, "What do you mean [money] should not be a thing? It should 100 percent be a thing. If I'm gonna play, I should be getting the money I signed to be getting paid. I should not be getting half of what I'm getting paid because the season's cut in half, on top of a 33 percent cut of the half that's already there — so I'm really getting, like, 25 percent.”
