In an effort to convince homeless people to seek shelter rather than riding out the coronavirus pandemic on the streets of San Francisco, city officials are providing them with booze, cigarettes and medical marijuana, provided they're willing to quarantine in a hotel room that's been secured for them. While the policy has drawn plenty of criticism from taxpayers who are essentially paying for this hotel party, Public Health official Grant Colfax tells KTVU-TV, "With regard to supporting people who are at risk, or who need to be in quarantine or isolation because they're COVID positive, our focus needs to be on supporting them. Meeting them where they are so that they can be cared for in the most appropriate way. That's good for them and for our community."
