Dolly Parton Was An Uncredited Producer on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"

Last week, fans were shocked to discover that the country icon secretly helped produce the long-running, cult-TV fave,Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The news got out after someone tweeted, "I was today years old when I found out that Dolly Parton was an uncredited executive producer on Buffy the Vampire Slayer." As The New York Post notes, Parton co-founded a production company called Sandollar Entertainment in 1986 with the late Sandy Gallin. Sandollar co-created the Buffy series as a spinoff from the original 1992 movie and brought it to the WB in 1997. Parton and Gallin also produced such classic films as 1991's Father of the Bride and, more recently, the Netflix anthology series Dolly Parton's Heartstrings. But wait, there's more! As another Parton fan pointed out on Twitter, "When Buffy ended, Dolly found out the show’s female co-producer made less than her male co-producers and sent a personal check for the difference." AsThe New York Times reported back in 2016, Parton invited Gail Berman to lunch in the late 1990s and told Berman "she had been unhappy to discover that men at the company had given Ms. Berman a less-than-generous share of Buffy royalties. With that, Ms. Parton gave a startled Ms. Berman a check."
