Chalk Artist Leaves Sweet Messages for Hospital Workers on Sidewalk

Last week, workers at New Orleans' Ochsner Medical Center, which has been inundated with COVID-19 patients, noticed a handful of messages etched in chalk on the sidewalk between the hospital's parking lot and main entrance. “If you’re just arriving, thank you for what you’re about to do,” says one, while a little further along, there's a note that reads, "You're extraordinary." And for those finishing their shifts: "If you are leaving, thank you…Rest well.” Lab tech Minerva Martin says the anonymous messages "give us hope," while Leslie Miller, who works in the hospital's pediatric unit, adds, "It definitely meant a lot to me and was a colorful surprise walking out and going home to go to bed after a long shift."
