Carrie Underwood Says She Was Body Shamed After "American Idol"

Carrie Underwood visited TODAY on Monday, and shared that the body shaming she received after winning American Idol in 2005 drove her to an extreme and unhealthy diet, UPI reports. Underwood said she limited herself to a strict 800 calories a day, and it took her a while to realize that wasn't healthy. "I had to start feeling not good, physically, before I was like, 'Something's not right here," the star recalled. "It was a lack of knowledge; it was a lack of knowing how to take care of myself," she said. The star admitted that she let the body shamers influence her, but eventually realized, "it didn't feel right, so it led me to do better." "I would 'fall off the wagon,' then feel terrible and repeat the cycle," she shared. "Your body is screaming out, I need more calories, I need more carbs!" Underwood just released her new book Find Your Pathon Tuesday, in which she shares her philosophy about health and fitness, which involves doing one's "absolute best" most of the time during the week, 52 weeks of the year.
