Manatee County has teamed up with the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council to bring you an informative planning guide to help examine your disaster plans, identify weaknesses you should address, and help your family and community be more prepared for the 2019 storm season.

With the threat of Hurricane Dorian heading towards the East Coast of Florida this Labor Day weekend, here is a checklist with links to get the information you need to keep you and your family safe.

Alert Florida- sign up to receive emergency alerts and other public safety notifications in your community

Hurricane Supplies Checklist

According to Ready.gov here are some items that you should have in your Hurricane Kit:

  •  Water one gallon of water per person per day for at least three days, for drinking and sanitation
  •  Food at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food
  • Battery-powered or hand crank radio and a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert
  • Flashlight
  • First aid kit
  • Extra batteries
  • Whistle to signal for help
  • Dust mask 
  • Moist towelettes
  • Garbage bags 
  • Plastic ties for personal sanitation
  • Wrench or pliers to turn of utilities
  • Manual can opener for food
  • Local maps
  • Cell phone with chargers and a backup battery
