Florida Keys Firefighter Saves Baby Key Deer

A Florida firefighter is being praised for her bravery after she ran into an out-of-control brush fire to rescue an endangered baby deer.

Jen Shockley, who is a firefighter in the Florida Keys, was working with her crew to prevent the fire from reaching a home when she spotted a frightened baby Key deer run into the blaze. Shockley immediately ran into the fire and was able to carry the little fawn to safety.

Shockley then gave water and oxygen to the Key deer, which is an endangered species native to the Florida Keys. After being checked out and determining that it hadn't suffered any injuries, the animal was released into a safe area.

Photos of Shockley with the adorable rescued deer were shared on the Monroe County Facebook page.
