Brush Fire in Venice Has Now Burned Over 650 Acres, is 95 Percent Contained

The brush fire in Venice that started on Memorial Day Monday afternoon continues to burn at Carlton Reserve in Venice, just off Border Road..

The Florida Forest service's Patrick Mahoney says that 650 acres have burned and several crews are working on keeping the fire contained.

Our extreme dry conditions, as well as our impending afternoon thunderstorms with lighting are concerns. As often lightning can occur, where rain does not occur.

At this point, No one has been injured and no structures have been threatened.

However, there are many homes close to this area. Many of those homes have livestock. Also there are several new home developments, close to this area.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
