The school year is almost over! Is your teen looking for a summer job? CareerSource Tampa Bay has a program that can help! Tampa Bay Summer Hires helps teens find the perfect job for them over summer break. The students would work with mentors to help determine the right job for them, and then walk them through the application and interview process as they are matched with local businesses that are hiring.
The jobs are for 6 weeks. Teens as young as 16 can apply to work with the program, and they would work for 20 hours a week at $15 per hour (I made $5 an hour at my first job in high school, so $15 sounds pretty great!).
I personally think summer jobs are a great idea for high school students. Having a job teaches important life skills that simply can't be learned in a classroom, so I'd certainly encourage parents to talk to their teens about working this summer. At only 20 hours a week, they'll still have plenty of time to enjoy their summer break.
