Did you know there's a black market for Girl Scout Cookies?!

Today I learned that there's a black market for Girl Scout Cookies! In case you didn't know, the Girl Scouts recently introduced a new flavor called "Raspberry Rally," and it looks like they might have underestimated the demand for this new flavor because they're sold out in many parts of the US. Well it didn't take long for "back market" Raspberry Rallies to end up on resale sites like eBay and Facebook Marketplace!

The resale price on these cookies is anywhere from $15 to $100 a box!

The Girl Scouts of America aren't too pleased:

“While we are happy that there’s such a strong demand for our cookies year-over-year, we’re saddened that the platforms and the sellers are disregarding the core mission of the cookie program and are looking to make a profit off of the name without supporting our mission and the largest girl-led entrepreneurship program in the world,” Girl Scouts of the USA said in a statement to WFLA. “When cookies are purchased through an unauthorized third-party seller, Girl Scout troops are deprived of valuable experience and, more importantly, proceeds that fund critical programming throughout the year.”

We definitely encourage people to support their local Girl Scouts with cookie purchases, but when you but cookies from a third-party, that money doesn't go to the Scouts. Please buy your cookies directly from a Scout....and remember that pre-ordering at the start of cookie season is the best way to guarantee you'll get what you want at the actual retail price (and all the money will stay with the Scouts)!
