Mote Marine Lab’s New Education Center Now Open on Anna Maria Island City Pier
The brand new Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium outreach and education center is Now Open on The Anna Maria Island City Pier/
The 1,900-square-foot space IS at the end of the Anna Maria City Pier, 103 Bay Blvd., the new exhibit allows visitors to appreciate sea life in a variety of ways… a touch tank, a child’s fishing experience, a turtle crawl, a mangrove exhibit and manatee exhibit.
Another interactive feature is the sound exhibit. Among them are the croaking sounds of the oyster toadfish and the roar of the black grouper.
There is also an exhibit that offers a view of sharks teeth.
A little history.... The Anna Maria City Pier was destroyed by Hurricane Irma in 2017. The pier was rebuilt and reopened in June 2020.
The City of Anna Maria was not able to secure an agreement with several different restaurants, they spoke with for the prime location, as the rebuild was happening. .
The Manatee County Commission approved a request in 2021 for $500,000 in tourist bed tax funds for design and installation of the learning center., in partnership with Mote Marine.
The center is open to visitors, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week.
It is FREE.... There is no admission charge.
