Meals on Wheels of Sarasota Needs More Volunteers to Help with Increased Demand
It's a New Year... Looking to give back? Here is a great way.....
More and More people need help in our community. This includes those who need home-delivered meals. To help, Meals on Wheels of Sarasota has greatly increased the number of meals they provide to our neighbors.
To keep up with the increased demand, they have increased the number of meals they delivers each day as well as the number of locations it serves in our community.
Where you can help.... To keep up with the new demands, Meals on Wheels of Sarasota is in need of hundreds of more volunteers.
The organization has 1,000 volunteers, however approximately 700 of them are currently inactive (for various reasons, from the pandemic to not being able to travel, etc...)_. Volunteers are needed to drive routes, clean and sanitize the insulated boxes the meals are packed in and help screen volunteers with temperature checks and other COVID-19 precautions.
What they do.....
Meals on Wheels of Sarasota delivers 1,100-calorie prepared meals, seven days a week, including holidays, to those in the community who live with mental or physical disabilities, both temporarily and permanently. Clients range from the youngest at 3 to the oldest at 105.
Overall, volunteers are now delivering anywhere from 800 to 1,000 meals a day.
