New I-75 Overpass Moving Forward to Connect Lakewood Ranch to UTC Mall Area
This new construction project is designed to improve access between destinations east and west of I-75 in the University/UTC area… and to help ease some of the congestion on both Fruitville Road and University Parkway.
The new overpass, is still in the planning stages. This fall, Sarasota County is scheduled to complete the Project Development and Environment Study, which will create designs – and looks at social and environmental impacts.
Back in February of this year… The Sarasota County Commission approved - Choice 2 (of several proposed) as their preferred option.
Choice 2… would take Lakewood Ranch Boulevard east of the Visit Sarasota County water tower and then curve around the northern side of the water tower to reach I-75. The overpass would cross I-75 and end at North Cattlemen Road.
The plan in Choice 2, also involves reconstructing about 1,900 feet of North Cattlemen to create an elevated intersection at the end of the overpass.
The project is a public-private partnership between Sarasota County and Schroeder-Manatee Ranch, Inc., parent company of the Lakewood Ranch development.
