Carly Pearce could hardly contain herself as she explained why it was a “super emotional day” for her family on Thursday (January 20). The “Never Wanted To Be That Girl” artist took to Twitter to announce that her sister, who has been serving in Kuwait as a captain in the National Guard, has returned home safely.

Pearce burst with excitement in an all-caps tweet: “SUPER EMOTIONAL DAY FOR MY FAMILY- WE GOT THE CALL THAT MY SISTER HAS LANDED IN THE US, SAFE & SOUND, AFTER MONTHS SERVING IN OUR NATIONAL GUARD IN KUWAIT. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO PRAYED FOR HER— I CAN’T WAIT TO HUG YOU, CRISTY!”

Pearce added a throwback photo from August, when she brought her sister on stage right before Cristy left for Kuwait. At that time, the reigning CMA Female Vocalist of the Year shared a heartfelt message to her sister and to her fellow service members: “What a beautiful moment it was for someone I admire & love so much. We also together gave a moment of silence for the devastating loss our country experienced this past week & cheered for all of the men & women who have served that were in the crowd. Cristy, thank you for your service. I love you & I’ll miss you, but am so damn proud of you.”
