Peter Frates, Man Who Inspired Ice Bucket Challenge Dies

The man who inspired the Ice Bucket Challenge to help fight ALS has succumbed to the disease. Former Boston College basketball star Pete Frates has died at the age of 34.

He was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease in 2012 at just 27 years old. Within two years, raised tens of millions of dollars by challenging the nation to pour ice on themselves.

For this, he was awarded the NCAA Inspiration of the Year Award in 2017.

In a statement, the Frates family says Pete's strength, courage and resilience made him a role model for all, especially young athletes.
