Eye Injuries From Fireworks Doubled Between 2016 & 2017

A new study from the American Academy of Ophthalmology shows that the number of U.S. residents who suffered eye injuries from fireworks nearly doubled from 700 in 2016 to 1,200 in 2017.

It seems most injuries are caused by legal fireworks that parents buy for their children, including sparklers, firecrackers, bottle rockets, and Roman candles.

The AAO recommends that anyone planning to set off their own fireworks wears protective eyewear, among other precautions.
