Uber Driver Steps in to Help 89-Year-Old Veteran

After returning 89-year-old Ronald Dembner to his Henry County, Georgia, home after a hospital visit, Uber driver Lauren Mulvihill was shaken by the condition of the elderly veteran's place--and decided to do something about it.

Mulvihill turned to Facebook for help and was soon knee-deep in volunteers to help clean up the home. Progress on the house has been steady, with the volunteers working to remove garbage, furniture, old carpet, and more. Mulvihill hopes to replace floors and deal with a severe mold problem, but is currently working on one problem at a time.

Some volunteers like Shaquin Thomas offered other ways to help besides cleaning, noting, "Food is my talent so whenever people need food, I'll cook." Now that the house is presentable, Mulvihill has also set up healthcare visits for Dembner, who is grateful for the help. "He is so thankful, he cracks me up,"

Mulvihill says. "He keeps saying, 'I don't know what I did to deserve all of this from all you guys.' It's giving him hope that he will be taken care of."
