In the middle of the normal back-to-school excitement, things were even more exciting for five-year-old Liam Lizana, who started school at Parkview Baptist School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
His dad, Staff Sgt. David Lizana, is a member of the Louisiana National Guard and has been serving in Iraq for about nine months.
Well, David was able to return to the states -- and he made a visit to the school for a special reunion with Liam.
David showed up, with his wife, Kristen and other loved ones waiting at the back of the school to join in on the surprise.
David said that the day Liam was born was one of the best days of his life, but admitted that this visit was extremely special as well. Seeing Liam turn around and realize his dad was home was, according to David, “the next best thing other than his birth.”
