FIREFIGHTERS SAVE MAN'S LIFE AND HIS LAWN

FIREFIGHTERS SAVE MAN'S LIFE AND HIS LAWN

For the second time this summer, firefighters are receiving praise for not only doing the job they've pledged to do, but for going above and beyond their call of duty by helping a resident with yard work.

A Florida man named Gene Work was in his yard laying down sod when he suffered a massive heart attack. His wife called 911 and watched as firefighters and EMTs attended to him and rushed him to the hospital.

Once he arrived at the emergency room, a group of firefighters decided to return to his house and finish laying down his sod. About seven firefighters and EMTs said they knew Gene would be out of commission for a while and they didn't want his lawn to die, so they wanted to get it down for him.

Gene's wife, Melissa, shared the story on Facebook and wrote, "They saved his life, dropped him off and then cared enough to save our GRASS!! They simply saw someone in need, something in need and did this for us. This wasn't in their job description. We have no words. Just sobbing."

Recently, a Texas firefighter helped save an elderly man who had collapsed while working on his yard. After the man was taken to the hospital, the firefighter stayed back and finished the man's yard work.
