Ways to Keep Your Pets Calm During Fireworks

July 5th is one of the busiest days of the year for animal shelters because so many pets flee their homes out of fear of fireworks. Hence, here these tips to keep your furry friends calm on the Fourth of July:

The #1 rule is to not bring you dog to a fireworks display in the first place.

2. Leave your pet inside and play soft music to help block the sounds of the fireworks.

3. Exercise your dog before the fireworks commence. A tired dog is less anxious.

4. If you plan to stay inside with your pet, try to stay in a familiar environment. After all, there's no place like home, and Independence Day is no exception.

5. Be sure all pets, including indoor cats, wear current ID tags.

6. Stuff a work-to-eat toy with special treats during the fireworks.

7. Do not punish your pet during times of stress as this can only make the problem worse. Be the Shaggy to your pet's scared, shaking Scooby.

8. Comfort your pet when they are fearful.
